The four arches

LATERA the art farm

Ancient gateway to the castle, of Lombard origin, known as the South Gate or Arch of the Good Council.

In Latera this gateway is also called "The Four Arches," because as can be seen in this structure, four streets surmounted by round arches intersect. It is a unique structure inserted in the oldest part of the village. The arches to the south and north were the gates for access to the castle, those on the sides led into the militia walkways, as can be clearly seen by walking along the streets that start from there and go all the way to a little square of vengeance and that circle around Palazzo Farnese.

The structure that can be admired is from the Lombard period with additions dating back to the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries commissioned by the Farnese. Inside the structure there is the icon of the Madonna del Buon Consiglio, dating back to the 15th century.
